Lunenburg, Nova Scotia

November 24-29 - Flute, chamber music, strings, piano and composition masterclasses with Robert Aitken, Walter Delahunt, Adrian Brendel and Burt Wathen.

Kentville native Robert Aitken, an internationally renowned flautist, composer and conductor and recipient of the Order of Canada and France's Chevalier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres, will spend two weeks at LAMP leading master classes in chamber music, flute and composition.

He will also conduct free lectures; offer outreach at Bluenose Academy, Harbour View Haven and Lunenburg Day Care Centre; and perform in two much-anticipated Master Series concerts.

The first of those performances will take place on November 23 at 2:30 p.m. and will see Mr. Aitken joined by a dynamic and award-winning young ensemble, the Afiara String Quartet, which has been described as "a revelation" with performances balancing "intensity and commitment" and "frequent moments of tenderness."

Mr. Aitken will provide the first of two free lectures on November 19 at 7:30 p.m., when he will discuss his life and music, including his early career as principal flute with the Vancouver and Toronto symphony orchestras and a solo career that spans more than 40 years, includes more than 70 recordings and has taken him to virtually every corner of the globe.
